Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills

Outdoor skills are critical to the success of the Scouting program, and Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills will provide leaders with the basic outdoor skills information needed to start a program right.
Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills training is a hands-on program that gives adult leaders the practical skills they need to lead Scouts in the out-of-doors. The skills taught in this course include campsite selection, ropes – whipping, tying, and lashing, wood tools, fire site preparation and building, cooking, first aid, plant identification, animal identification, packing and hiking techniques, map and compass reading, and leave no trace.
Participants will leave this training experience knowing they can show their Scouts how to accomplish outdoor skills while fulfilling rank advancements. You will have mastered basic camp skills required for Tenderfoot to First Class.
Who attends?
Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills is the required outdoor training for all Scoutmasters, assistant Scoutmasters, and Varsity Scout coaches. The skills taught are based on the outdoor skills found in The Boy Scout Handbook. The course is also ideal for Venturing leaders because it focuses on skills that build confidence and competence in leaders conducting outdoor camping experiences. It is also open to troop committee members, Webelos den leaders and any interested Scouters.
